What makes a good website?

Do you ever find yourself drawn to the same websites? The truth of the matter is that some websites leave bigger impressions than others. Websites that leave a user with a negative impression are considered bad. Websites that leave users with a positive impression are considered good.

Here are a couple of my favourite websites and what makes them good:

1. Yelp - https://www.yelp.com

Yelp is an online tool where users can leave recommendations and reviews on services they experience. These services cover numerous sectors. Many people leave reviews on restaurants, nightlife, doctors, and food (Yelp, 2019). Some of the of the best features of Yelp is its information design and navigation design. Information is structured in a way that makes the site simple to use and easy to understand. Moreover, it is simple to navigate the site. For example, the search bar and filters are distinct and highlighted at the top of the website. After you click on the search symbol, you remain on the same page. However, the specifics of your search result change the results listed below the search bar.

2. YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/

YouTube is an online video sharing platform (YouTube, 2019). Users are able to record and upload videos, as well as, watch and subscribe to other user's accounts. YouTube requires little mental effort due to its simplistic design, ease of usability and memorability (Kendal, 2019). In addition, YouTube allows users to have control and freedom as part of its user interface design (Nielsen, n.d.) They do this by providing an exit for users if they need to undo selecting a video or ad from their site.

In her report, the author Michelle B. Cowley-Cunningham aims to outline the SOSTAC Model, created by PR Smith, and describe how this model can be applied to start-up online businesses. In contrast, she also critiques this plan and details how it should not be applied to start-up online businesses  (Cowley-Cunningham, 2016). In her report, the author uses a retro sweets and cakes start-up online business example to demonstrate the SOSTAC Model as outlined below: S  - The author sees an opening in the market for selling sweet treats. However, it is essential that a Unique Selling Point (USP) is decided to set her sweet treats apart from the competition. The author settled on bite sized retro sweets and cakes to sell in a one stop shop for both dessert types (Cowley-Cunningham, 2016). Top 3 New Realities Affecting Web Marketing Managers

In recent years, there have been many changes in the field of marketing that have challenged marketers worldwide. Out of all these new challenges, there are 3 stand out new realities marketers need to face: Technology, Globalization, and Social Responsibility (Kotler et al., 2016) . Technology has become a powerful force today. The use of social media has become a widely popularized aspect of technology - especially in the marketing sphere. As a result, the world is more connected than ever. Globalization is another huge new phenomenon that has drastically changed the ways and places we do business. Large scale immigration and travel have played a key role in speeding up the effects of globalization. Big metropolitan cities have become melting pots of different cultures, cuisines and ideologies. Social Responsibility  was a slow and steady player in the marketing circle. Not much thought was really put into ethical and environmental aspects of product development a...
